Choose the kitchen's mounting arrangement before airflow
ZLINE's Cottage White wooden hood uses an island mount, while its Autograph Edition satin stainless hood uses a wall mount. Inserts and under-cabinet designs are separate arrangements here. Choose the mounting type your cabinetry and ceiling can accept; an airflow figure does not turn an island hood into a wall hood.
Material, body depth and the mounting drawing deserve attention alongside the visible width. Keep the selected model's installation instructions with the plan, including clearances to the cooking surface and how the hood is supported.
Nominal hood size can differ from the body you must fit
ZLINE's DuraMount insert has a 28.5 in body width. Its Designer Series oil-rubbed bronze wall hood has a 41.25 in width. Both differ from the nominal size in the product name. Actual body widths in this selection span 28.5 to 60 in; use those dimensions and the drawing for the enclosure opening.
Width does not establish capture over your cooktop or tell you the space needed behind the hood. This comparison follows ZLINE dimensions and mounting descriptions without installing a hood or measuring cooking-fume capture.
The duct connection deserves its own place in the plan
Duct diameters range from 6 to 8 in, and ZLINE's motor airflow ratings range from 400 to 700 cfm. The Cottage White island hood pairs a 6 in duct connection with a 400 cfm motor rating; the Autograph Edition satin stainless wall hood pairs an 8 in connection with a 700 cfm rating.
Those are motor ratings, not measurements of your finished duct route. Bends, route length and the installation arrangement are not captured by the number alone. Have the duct and ventilation plan checked against the selected hood's instructions before using rated airflow to decide.
Before you buy
Is the CFM rating the airflow I'll get at the stove?
Treat it as ZLINE's motor rating, printed as High Performance 700 CFM on the biggest motors, which sit in hoods 30 to 60 in wide. Airflow through your own duct run, with its length, bends and cap, can differ and isn't calculated here.
Can I use the size in the name as the cutout width?
Not safely. The physical width can be a little under or over the size in the name: the 42 in Designer hood is 41.25 in wide and the 28 in DuraMount insert 28.5 in. Work from ZLINE's dimensional drawing for the exact model when you plan cutouts and clearances. The hoods also weigh 35.27 to 100 lb, the wooden KBiTT-36 being the heaviest, so the wall or ceiling fixing has to carry that. Both named examples use a 6 in duct, among the three hoods rated 400 or 500 CFM.
Why doesn't Island Mount show the 46 in island insert?
ZLINE files the 824i-46 as an Insert even though its name says Island Mount, so it appears under Insert with DuraMount. Island Mount holds just the wooden 36 in KBiTT-36, and Under Cabinet the two ducted hoods of that same nominal width, the 625-36 and 623-36.
