20 models to compare

Which air compressor meets your CFM needs?

Use your tool's CFM at 90 PSI. A bigger tank doesn't raise airflow.

For quieter operation, California Air Tools claims 40 dB for its cabinet models, but they weigh 131 and 156 lb.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

A bigger tank can still feed less air

Start with the air tools you own. Tanks span 2.5 to 120 gal, but the California Air Tools range shows why capacity is a poor stand-in for output: its compressors sharing a tank size can have different airflow ratings. Choose by your tool's air demand, then decide how much storage and floor space you want.

Keep the tool's working pressure in view

Maker-rated airflow spans 2.2 to 38.5 cfm at the pressure used for this comparison. These figures help you read each maker's claims; they do not show that measurement methods are identical across brands, and compressor source specifications here come without air-tool operation or sound measurements. Campbell Hausfeld and Rolair serve very different setups here. Compare the selected compressor's pressure and airflow with your tool manual, and read duty-cycle guidance before planning continuous work.

Delivery and wiring can decide the purchase

Known weights run from 37.25 to 880 lb, so moving the compressor deserves as much thought as tank volume. Some WEN and Rolair entries lack weight or electrical details. Resolve those gaps before arranging delivery or connecting power; an amperage figure alone does not settle the wiring plan.

Before you buy

Can I compare airflow across brands?

Up to a point. The figures share CFM at 90 PSI, but equivalent measurement methods across brands aren't established. Read a 5.3 CFM rating from California Air Tools and 5.5 CFM from Campbell Hausfeld as two separate maker ratings. Three models have no figure at that pressure here and drop out when you set an airflow minimum.

Does a bigger tank give me more air?

Tank size and airflow are separate ratings: a bigger tank stores more air, but it doesn't lift the CFM figure. Pick on the shared-pressure CFM first and treat the tank as reserve. The 17 models with stated airflow are rated from 2.2 CFM (California Air Tools 8010) to 38.5 CFM (Campbell Hausfeld TX2113). The four 20 gal models alone run from 3.8 to 10.6 CFM. Of the rated models, everything above 10.6 CFM is a Campbell Hausfeld 80 or 120 gal two-stage unit weighing 540 to 880 lb.

Are the noise figures comparable?

Only loosely. They come from California Air Tools alone, run from 40 to 70 dB, and don't say how far from the machine they were taken. Campbell Hausfeld, Rolair and WEN don't give a noise figure in this comparison. The California Air Tools 8010 weighs 48 lb and claims 60 dB, against the heavier cabinet models.
