Equal volume can come with a different opening

The simplehuman Semi-Round Step Can and Semi-Round Sensor Can both hold 45 L and use liner code J. The step can opens by pedal; the sensor can uses motion. Choose the opening action you want before assuming a capacity match makes the cans interchangeable.

Capacities span 40 to 58 L. The Rectangular Sensor Recycler’s total includes its compartments, so its 58 L does not mean all that space is available for trash. This comparison reads capacity and opening descriptions without assessing sensor response.

A liner code will not tell you the lid clearance

Liner codes are available for 9 cans. simplehuman’s Slim Step Can with Liner Rim uses code N, while the Slim Hybrid Step Can uses code K. A code identifies the maker’s intended liner; it does not establish compatibility with another brand’s bags.

Read the can’s footprint and opened-lid dimensions on the product page before placing it beneath a counter. The capacity and liner selectors cannot resolve cabinet fit or the space needed to operate the lid.

Before you buy

How much trash does the 58 L recycler hold?

Less than the full nominal volume of that sensor can. That figure combines both compartments and the split isn't given here; the recycler also has no custom liner code in this comparison, so it can't count as a match once you choose a code.

Do I have to buy simplehuman's bags?

The code names simplehuman's own custom-fit liner for that can (J, K, M, N, P or Q here). Other bags might fit, but how well isn't covered here, so the code tells you which simplehuman bag is made for it and nothing more. The 45 L Semi-Round Sensor Can is the lone sensor option among five cans of that capacity.
