Depth alone won't decide. Gladiator rates its 24 in deep Tall Cabinet at 2,000 lb, but GearCloset at 300 lb.
For your tight parking bay, the 12 in wall units are shallower, rated 150 to 200 lb in total.

Ready-to-Assemble Extra Large GearBox — Silver Tread: Source 1 ↗ · September 26, 2026
Put shelf limits beside the tools you will store
Gladiator’s Ready-to-Assemble Extra Large GearBox has a maker-rated total load of 450 lb and a shelf load of 75 lb. Its Premier Pre-Assembled Tall Cabinet carries ratings of 2000 lb total and 400 lb per shelf. A cabinet total is not permission to put that whole load on a shelf; follow the maker’s load-distribution instructions.
Shelf ratings are available for 9 cabinets. Get a limit before loading them. A missing rating cannot grant unlimited capacity. These are Gladiator’s load figures; we have not loaded cabinets to assess strength.
Leave walking room after the doors swing out
Cabinet depths span 12 to 25.5 in. Gladiator’s wall GearBoxes use the 12 in depth, while the Premier Pre-Assembled GearDrawer is 25.5 in deep. Compare the full width and height as well, then reserve the door-opening and working space specified for the exact cabinet.
An assembled depth stops at the cabinet body. It does not describe how far an open door projects into your garage or whether the cabinet will obstruct a parked vehicle.
Pre-assembled does not settle installation
The Extra Large GearBox needs assembly; the wall GearBoxes arrive assembled, and the Premier GearDrawer still needs some assembly. Ask what remains to be fitted for your chosen package before scheduling delivery.
Follow the mounting and anchoring instructions even when the cabinet arrives assembled. An assembly label neither establishes that it can stand unsecured nor identifies which fixings come in the box.
Before you buy
Which cabinets need assembly?
The 24 in and 30 in Premier wall GearBoxes list no assembly required; follow Gladiator's installation instructions before use. Five pre-assembled floor units still need their bumpers and casters fitted, and the Tall Cabinet its leveling legs and corner brackets, while the four Ready-to-Assemble models (the Extra Large GearBox, the GearCloset and both 3/4-door GearBoxes) are full builds.
Why do some cabinets show no load limit?
This comparison has no supported value for those ratings, so they remain blank. That covers both ratings on the 7 Drawer Modular Tool Storage Cabinet and the per-shelf rating on the Tall GearBox and GearCloset.
Can every shelf carry its shelf rating at the same time?
Treat the two numbers as separate limits. The Tall GearLocker, for example, is rated 75 lb per shelf and 450 lb for the whole cabinet, so the cabinet figure caps what all the shelves carry together. Wall units also depend on your wall and fasteners, which can be the weak point, so follow Gladiator's mounting instructions to the letter. The four 18 in deep units are rated 300 to 455 lb. The 28 in wide GearBox and GearDrawer, 25.5 in deep, are rated 1,400 lb; Tall Cabinet stands 84 in and GearCloset 72 in. Heavy tool storage points to the deep pre-assembled cabinets.
