A compact stand may change the tool assortment

Minuteman International Paxton 4-Piece Mini Tool Sets and Holden 3-Piece Mini Tool Sets are both 22 in high with 7.5 in diameter bases. Paxton contains 4 tools; Holden contains 3. The stand does not count as a tool, and the count alone cannot tell you the assortment.

Holden contains a poker, shovel and brush. Twisted Rope Fireplace Tool Sets adds tongs to that assortment and has a 6.5 in square base. Decide which tools you need before choosing the stand shape; the maker's set descriptions here are not accompanied by hot-coal handling.

Leave room above and behind the stand

Set heights range from 22 to 30.75 in. Known base widths range from 6.5 to 18 in, with round bases represented by diameter. Depth and the room needed to lift a tool still need separate checks beside the hearth.

Bedford Inline needs more space across. Base width leaves out depth and the room needed to lift and use tools.
